HARMONY AND BALANCE
Harmony and Balance are two different things.
Balance is created when two things of equal and opposite weight exist at opposite ends of an equally long lever. Balance is an artificial state, because it implies stasis. Nothing can remain in balance for long, because the world is constantly shifting. As the Buddha said “All things are impermanent.” In other words, all things change.
Harmony, on the other hand, is a state of fluidity and receptivity which allows us to adjust to change. It’s the waves, rolling in, and out. It’s the seasons, shifting from summer, to winter, then back again. It’s the flow of yin and yang. And it’s how we, caught in the middle of all these things, embrace them, and live our lives to the fullest, despite the trials and tribulations that occasionally present themselves.
For some, Winter is a time of those trials and tribulations. The shorter days, the calls of family, travel, and holidays, even the worries of the current economy – all bespeak great changes. For those teetering in precarious balance, it’s a worrisome time. For those who live in harmony, shifting with the tides, riding the waves, it’s simply another time of change.
Learn to fight less, and flow more, and that will bring you happiness.
