April Self-Healing Tips

Written by Julie Festa, L.Ac.

Spring is here, and the most important element of good health is to go with the flow.  There are limitless ways of doing this.  With tai chi and yoga practice, we get the body’s chi and blood flowing.  As the chi moves, we relax.  We experience the ease of being in the flow of things.  There is less struggle, frustration, stress and resistance in general.  We can thank the Liver and the healthy flow of Wood energy for this delicious feeling in our lives.  Remember – the most important thing you can do for your Liver is just to relax.  Relax.  Relax…

She opens her smile to catch the Spring flavored snowflakes on her virgin tongue. He grabs her hand and pulls her into his sideways sway, singing a soft, raspy Ryan Adams love song in her ear. He stretches out his arm and spins her around then gently pulls her back in. She closes her eyes and breathes him in. "There's something more," he says, "beyond the obvious." The stars twinkle in her eyes like a wet reflection of truth, and he stretches his arm out once more. She wraps her fingers around his and she spins...and spins...

"Inhaling Makes You Heavy…"

Written by Reid Shapiro

Most of us have heard by now that, “inhaling makes you heavy, and exhaling makes you light.” How many of us have had the time and/or the inclination to gain some understanding of why that is, and what it means?
If I asked one of our tai chi classes, “When inhaling makes you heavy, is it because you are becoming more yin, or more yang?”, I’m sure that most students would correctly answer, “More yin.” But if I asked the same class to give me a basic understanding of kan and li, I’m guessing I’d be met with a lot of blank stares.
