Traditional Psychotherapy
THERAPEAUTIC PROCESS
Benefits of Therapy:
Participating in therapy can result in a number of benefits including a better understanding of personal goals and values, improved interpersonal relationships, and resolution of the specific concerns that led you to seek therapy. Working toward these benefits, however, requires effort on the part of the client and may result in the client experiencing emotional discomfort. Change will sometimes be easy and swift, but more often it can be slow and frustrating. Remembering unpleasant events and resolving them through therapy may bring on strong feelings of anger, depression, fear, etc. Attempting to resolve issues between partners, family members, and other individuals may also lead to discomfort and may result in changes that were not originally intended. However here at InFocus we combine Eastern and Western philosophy which can alter the rhythm of traditional psychotherapy by offering a myriad of strategies for healing if the client is ammenable to these additions to traditional psychotherapy.
Treatment Philosophy:
During the initial evaluation period, we will clarify together the nature of the issues for which you are seeking treatment. We will define some reasonable treatment goals, and develop a treatment plan that will help you achieve these goals. This aligns perfectly with the authorization process of most insurance and managed care companies that expect therapy to target the symptoms patients’ exhibit. We, however, will be expecting you to look beyond the symptoms to help further your own healing. This usually consists of additional reading, seeking additional resources to support your work here at InFocus Wellness Institute.
Therapy Process:
The theoretical perspective is to provide services using a holistic approach. For several of us here, we can combine a variety of perspectives including but not limited to family systems, cognitive, behavioral, self-psychology, client centered, traumatic grief, and relationship based work. We can also combine Western and Eastern philosophies and explore one’s health and lifestyle practices. Many clients can explore the benefits of increased physical activity and its effect on emotional health. Client and therapist will explore which models, interventions and techniques work best for healing. These can include Hypnosis & Imagery, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Therapy Model, Assertiveness Training, Journaling, Role-Playing, Bibliotherapy, Jungian Archetypal work, Group Work, Dyadic therapy, coupled with companion Eastern practices such as yoga, Qi Gonq to name a few. We also provide several specialized intervention models for very specific problem areas.
There are times when treatment may highlight additional issues worth exploring, but because these issues may not be deemed "medically necessary," your insurance company will decline to authorize further sessions. These issues are generally deemed to be "personal growth and development" and are never covered by insurance. Most insurance companies do not mind if therapy sessions continue, however, they will not pay for these sessions. This is where you will need to decide for yourself if future sessions would be beneficial to you and if you would be willing to be personally responsible for the cost of continued therapy. This will be discussed at the end of your insurance authorizations.
